The Science of Wellbeing

Discover the multiple benefits that connecting with nature has on health and wellbeing of individuals and communities. Investigate scientific studies, learn about what changes in our bodies when we spend time in natural environments, understand the weird and wacky ways that health and wellbeing has been treated in the past and look at the impacts of green spaces in urban areas on the people who live there. Run as a sequence of lessons or choose a topic to focus on out of the following:

Topic One: Wellbeing and Nature

Topic Two: Our Bodies in Nature

Topic Three: The History of Wellbeing

Topic Four: Green Space and Urban Environments

Topic Five: STEAM Task

Students will:

  • Explore practical and creative actions that promote health and wellbeing
  • Explore different scientific studies on the topic of nature based wellbeing
  • Design their own experiments to measure the impact of nature on health and wellbeing
  • Look at how and why green space is being considered in urban planning and why Adelaide has recently been named a National Park City
