Biomimicry: Nature's Blueprint

Looking to nature as a model, a measure and a mentor, explore the ways that nature is inspiring architects and designers to create more sustainably. A collaborative effort between the Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium and ArchiED, this online unit leads students through how to research, plan and design a structure inspired by nature. Explore the following topics:

Topic One: So, you Wanna be an Architect?

Topic Two: Design Process

Topic Three: What is Biomimicry?

Topic Four: Form Follows Function

Students will:

Understand and analyse the role and responsibility of a career as an architect and other design and technologies careers
Explore and practice design thinking to create adapt and refine design ideas
Understand how plants and animals have adapted to their environments
Investigate different ways humans can use nature to inspire more sustainable and effective design
Follow a brief to design a structure that uses biomimicry to be more effective and communicate design ideas in a folio of work
