There are more than 3,500 species of flowering plants native to South Australia.

Over 400 of our flowering plants are endemic to South Australia, which means they are not found anywhere else in the world.

More orchids are endemic than any other plant group (17%), with 10 families representing more than 65% of the endemics.

South Australian plants occur in very diverse habitats – from rocky deserts, to temperate forests, aquatic lagoons and coastal dunes.

The online Flora of South Australia aims to describe every plant native or naturalised in the State.

It is based on the printed fourth edition of the Flora of South Australia (1986), the new fifth edition - which is currently being published online in PDF format - as well as new work by staff, Honorary Associates and colleagues from SA and interstate institutions.
