Sharing our knowledge, our collections and our expertise is a priority for our Science team.
This is achieved through providing our scientific evidence base in a range of formats.
These include data on collections made available online, knowledge of species attributes and explaining scientific discoveries through fact sheets and articles. The Science team uses online tools to reach out to answer questions asked by a local, state-wide and national community.
Australia's Virtual Herbarium (AVH) links databases relating to millions of specimens in Australia's major herbaria. It is the only online database depicting plant distributions for an entire continent and is an initiative of the Council of Australasian Herbaria (CHAH).
Other highlights are:
The development and application of a DNA sequence-based toolkit, backed up by vouchers, for everyday use.
Expanding the fundamental plant attributes knowledge-base on our plant species in new ways such as compiling data based on herbarium specimens to provide long term evidence of flowering and fruiting times for our native plants and weeds.
Modernising our digital data capture and data sharing toolkit to enable global sharing of our biodiversity data.
Sharing our knowledge using a diverse range of resources and expanding the range of tools available for use by the scientific community and the wider community.
Providing real-time support in fungal identification for the Poisons Information Centre (SA Health).
