Loans are made between Herbaria and are a fundamental component of the research of botanists using Herbarium collections. Our scientists regularly borrow specimens from other institutions, and every year we send material interstate and overseas.
The exchange programme involves Herbaria sending duplicate collections to other Herbaria permanently. This enriches Herbarium collections and also safeguards the collections against threats, for example fire and insects, by spreading them to more than one quarantine facility.
Involving members of the public in the science that we do is the best way to expose them to the ideas that motivate our work and a build life-long interest in science and conservation.
Additionally, the added capacity that can be gained through mobilising the public can increase the size of data and power of analyses by orders of magnitude.
