Nestled between the red-bricked Goodman Building and First Creek Wetland at the eastern edge of the Botanic Garden, the Kitchen Garden is a vibrant city oasis, developed to inspire a sense of wonder in children about where their food comes from.
The Kitchen Garden includes garden beds abundant with seasonal fruit, vegetables and herbs, pots and trays, structures for climbing plants, fruit trees, compost, worms, native bee hotels and enclosed areas – including a large basket weave dome – for storytelling and group discussion.
Garden plots have been divided up into odd-shaped beds with a sawdust path flowing through, creating a sense of adventure for little visitors.
The Kitchen Garden is open to visitors outside of booked education program sessions.
Stroll through the garden and find inspiration for your own kitchen garden – at home, in the workplace or in the community!
