The Mediterranean Garden is a place for inspiration and ideas, to discover ways to work with the South Australian climate to cultivate sustainable gardens, rich with seasonal beauty.
The Millennium Drought in South Australia (2001 – 2009) called for drastic changes in water usage. It highlighted how important it is to garden in harmony with our local climate, to work with our scarcity of water rather than fighting against it.
Our gardens need to embrace plants that thrive in climates like ours, while looking towards a future that is hotter and potentially drier. By following a handful of principles, we can create gardens that are waterwise, climate compatible, biodiverse, abundant in seasonal colour, and that nourish each of our senses.
